skydive update

Strangely, we had perfect weather on opening day. It doesn't happen very often, but the temps were in the 50s with light winds. We had a great turnout and dropped over 200 jumpers - that's a record! Sunday was a different story - cold temps, wind, and even snow! By Wednesday, we were back in the air for our $15 to 15,000 special and we even flew loads on Thursday.

Special thanks to everyone who took the time to join us for the Safety Day Seminars. We feel that it was one of our best Safety Days with important information presented by very knowledgeable speakers. If anyone has any questions about anything that was discussed, please feel free to contact us to talk further. As you know, safety is a priority at CSC and we strive to create an environment where students and experienced jumpers feel comfortable asking the staff for advice.

Did you win a slot on the first-ever skydive load on PAC N902ST? Be sure to check the site for our winning raffle numbers. At this point, we are planning to fly the first load Saturday morning by 9:30am. You won't have many opportunities to be on the first load of a brand-new jump plane, so don't be late. We will have an arrival party when the airplane first lands at Hinckley Saturday morning at 9:30. Later that night, we are having a champaign party. We hope you are as excited about our new airplane as we are.

It's been a learning experience buying a brand-new airplane, getting her across the ocean, registering it in the US, inspected by the FAA, and ready to jump. Special thanks to Ray Ferrell and Phil Esdaile of Utility Aircraft Corporation and everyone at Pacific Aerospace Limited who helped make the entire purchase process seamless.

After a 45 hour flight across the ocean with nearly 1,000 gallons of fuel and 18 hours of range, the ferry pilots decided to stop short of their planned arrival point of Davis, CA and touch down in Hollister, CA to get some sleep before making the short hop over to Davis. Ironically, when they were tying down the airplane for the night, they noticed the airplane parked next to it looked much like the one they just flew across the ocean. As you may or may not know, Dean has been flying the Otter in Hollister at Adventure Center Skydiving this winter. What are the chances of them deciding to land at the same airport as the Otter?

We have been keeping Dean busy in California. In addition to flying Saturdays and Sundays in Hollister, he has been ferrying the Otter down to San Diego on the weekdays to support the military freefall school. They are keeping him busy.

Keep an eye on N902ST as she makes her way east from Davis, CA tomorrow via www.flightaware.com.

CSC Pareto Optimal is happy to announce our new RW Mentor Camp Weekends. These Camps are designed to promote and improve your formation skydiving skills in a low pressure and friendly environment. The camps are designed for skydivers with less than 500 jumps, but skydivers of all skill levels are welcome. The camps will focus on small groups of jumpers (3 - 6), and will be structured into a one or two day series of jumps aimed at building basic formation skydiving skills. Each jump includes pre-dive walk-throughs and post-dive debrief, with video (if available).

There is no registration fee or extra charge for these camps. You pay only the price of your lift ticket. Jumpers may register for one or both days for each camp.

Mentoring will be provided by members of the CSC Pareto Optimal 4-way team and other experienced 4-way competitors. For each jump day, you will be assigned to a group of jumpers with a similar level of skill. Given good weather, each group will complete 6 - 8 jumps per day.

We hope to see you at CSC for our one or more of our Mentor Camp weekends! For further information, contact Andy Boyd for information and/or to register at andrewjboyd@yahoo.com. When registering, please indicate number of RW jumps, and tunnel time, if any.

If you need any rigging services completed, don't forget that Eric is available full-time and can get you taken care of before opening day. Contact Eric via email at TheLoft@PROskydiving.com or call 616.293.8955.

As we mentioned in the last update, CSC is now using Twitter. We will be updating our Twitter status throughout each day which will then update our Facebook page and the Flight Status section of the CSC homepage. If you opt in to mobile alerts on Twitter, you can receive text messages with our update information. To begin following us, check out www.twitter.com/skydivecsc.
